The Blood & Moone Files – Episode 7: Djinn Running (Final Edit) Written by Justin Evans | Final Showrunner Edit S1 - E7 - DJINN RUNNING DOG BOY DAN Hey there, my babies, and welcome back. Now last time, our boys were gettin’ deep in the weeds — demons in mirrors, ancient fire spirits underfoot, and a whole lotta insomnia. Chandler’s frayed around the edges, and John’s just learned that whatever’s stirring out there might not be done with them yet. Now I don’t want to spoil nothin’, but tonight we get a taste of what happens when the past don’t stay buried... and fire don’t ask permission to burn. Let’s listen in. INT. LEVINE’S GARAGE – MORNING SFX: Metal clinks. Tools in use. Chandler grunts under a car hood. ABE That thing still givin’ you trouble? CHANDLER BLOOD Yeah. Like it knows I’m trying to focus on anything but it. ABE You sure you’re up for this today? CHANDLER BLOOD I need the distraction. ABE Mhmm. Just don’t strip the bolts like last time. CHANDLER BLOOD No promises. ABE Oh—almost forgot. Sheriff came by lookin’ for you. CHANDLER BLOOD What’d he want? ABE Didn’t say. Just left a note. (hands it over) CHANDLER BLOOD (shaking head) Awesome. Exactly what I needed. (reads note) YOU’RE FIRED (to self) great... INT. DINER – LUNCH RUSH SFX: Sizzling griddle. Plates clinking. JEN You again? CHANDLER BLOOD What can I say? I’m a glutton for punishment—and mediocre coffee. JEN Well lucky for you, I think this place specializes in both. CHANDLER BLOOD You always this cheerful, or is the coffee here just that good to you? JEN It’s the caffeine. Gives me power. I should probably cut back though. SFX: Coffee poured. CHANDLER BLOOD Thank you. JEN Thanks. You doing okay? Looks like you’re carrying a heavy load today. CHANDLER BLOOD I’ve got a whole damn luggage set on my back today. But yeah... at least I’m upright. JEN Sometimes upright’s a win. CHANDLER BLOOD Yeah. Everyday above ground is a good one, right? Hey... you still down for that picnic? JEN Sure. Just give me a time. CHANDLER BLOOD How about today? JEN Deal. But if you bring gas station wine, I’m telling everyone. CHANDLER BLOOD I’ll spring for a cork. I’ve got a couple errands to run right now but, meet me at the park in a couple hours? JEN Can’t wait. EXT. FOREST CLEARING – AFTERNOON SFX: WIND IN TREES. SILENCE. FOOTFALLS OVER STICKS AND LEAVES. JOHN MOONE This is where Rob said it happened. But it’s like they wiped it clean. CHANDLER BLOOD I wouldn’t call this clean, what the hell happened? JOHN MOONE It’s scorched earth out here. Whatever was here, it got *burned out*. And not with matches. CHANDLER BLOOD The Ajim guy? JOHN MOONE Most likely. But the signature’s faint. Ifrit fire doesn’t linger long, but fire is still fire. Luckily the woods didn’t catch. CHANDLER BLOOD Rob’s lucky he got out. What’d he say, exactly? JOHN MOONE That he heard chanting. Saw something move—fast. Then flames. He ran. CHANDLER BLOOD Smart guy. JOHN MOONE Wise. Hence the “wizard” moniker. Plus he’s been around the block enough times to know how to save his own ass. CHANDLER BLOOD So, wizards are real too? That’s not just a nickname. JOHN MOONE Yeah, Chan... Come on, we’ve got another stop to make. INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – NIGHT SFX: MONITORS BEEPING. QUIET. TONY BROOKS You think I’m crazy, don’t you? JOHN MOONE No. I’ve seen enough to know better. TONY BROOKS It was fire. But it wasn’t just fire. It... screamed. Like it hated me. CHANDLER BLOOD What happened, Tony? TONY BROOKS We were just hanging out. Me and Rob. There was this... circle. He said was nothing to worry about and he’d take care of it. So, he got up and did his magic stuff with his walking stick. Waving his arms around and mumbling to himself. But something answered him. CHANDLER BLOOD Something? TONY BROOKS It came out of the air. Just... fire and smoke and *eyes*. It reached out and burnt my arm and I ran. I didn’t look back. I think Rob tried to stop it. And now he’s just... gone. JOHN MOONE You didn’t cause this. Whatever you found, it was already waiting. TONY BROOKS I don’t sleep anymore. When I close my eyes, I *hear* it. Laughing. CHANDLER BLOOD We’re gonna stop it. I promise. TONY BROOKS It’s in me, isn’t it? The way it looked at me... I keep hearing it. JOHN MOONE Is it speaking to you? TONY BROOKS Yes JOHN MOONE What does it say to you? TONY BROOKS It wants me dead because I saw it. It... It says it’s gonna burn me up unless... (crying) unless I kill myself first. I’m so tired. I just want to sleep. Sometimes I think I need to just do it. It can’t hurt me if I’m dead. Oh god, I just want this out of my head. (falls apart) JOHN MOONE It’s not in you. But it has *marked* you. That’s different. And that link can be broken. Be brave Tony, don’t do anything rash. TONY BROOKS You really believe that? That it’ll stop? CHANDLER BLOOD We both do. We have to. EXT. PARK – AFTERNOON SFX: OUTSIDE NOISES. SOFT WIND. A WINE CORK POPS. JEN You weren’t lying. This is actual wine. CHANDLER BLOOD See? Man of class and panic attacks. JEN You’re funny, but you’ve got a quiet sadness, you know that? CHANDLER BLOOD Yeah... I wasn’t exactly a popular kid. Me and John always just watched movies growing up. Kinda kept to ourselves. Anyway, give me another one. JEN Ok, let me think, uuuuuhhmmmm, Ok. How about Big Trouble in Little China and Harlem Nights. CHANDLER BLOOD Easy! Victor Wong from Big Trouble in Little China was in The Golden Child with Eddie Murphy who was also in Harlem nights. JEN *laughing* Oh my god! I could never remember all that. CHANDLER BLOOD Maybe next time we can watch some movies together? JEN Next time? CHANDLER BLOOD Well, if you want to, uh, I mean if we meet up again, er, if that sounds like something you’d like. JEN Yeah, I’d like that. CHANDLER BLOOD *nervous laugh* Me too. Thanks for getting lunch today by the way. JEN It’s the least I could do after running out on you, and the bill for the pie. CHANDLER BLOOD (smiling) Yeah, it wasn’t a big deal. J-Just so you know, I really am looking forward to a “next time” JEN Me too. SFX: GLASSES CLINK. A PAUSE. CHANDLER BLOOD You’re so nice to me, almost no one else is anymore. I feel like I could tell you anything. Everything. Like, my whole life story. But right now, I just wanna be here. JEN Then be here. DOG BOY DAN Every fire’s gotta start with a spark like match, my babies. But not every match gets struck on purpose. Poor Tony and his friend the Tree Wizard lit one he didn’t understand—and now Chandler’s starting to see just how much damage one spark can cause. At the same time he’s making his own sparks with the new girl in town, Jen. Sure is good to see the Chan man catch a break. But the past has a way of catchin’ up with you, mistakes can smolder on for a good long while, and in this story the fire’s still runnin’. (Outro credits, etc.)
